My dog had surgery in June and razor burn resulted.
If a dog in your life has ever been down the surgery road, you know that veterinary staff shaves their fur to getting the dog as naked as possible. I know this is essential so a clean surgical area is presented to the doctor, but razor burn can, and does, occur.
In June, our PR (Puppy Relations) Manager, Dexter, had surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right leg. This is the second time we’ve faced a ruptured ACL, so we knew what to expect. We also knew that after the surgery, razor burn would most likely be present.
I so despise being right sometimes. This is what our little man looked like moments after being discharged from same day surgery;
Being more prepared this go round, I wanted to have something on hand to soothe the razor burn yet that would not be bothersome to the staples or surgical area.
The Internet is resplendent with products that claim to help a multitude of dog issues. Thankfully, some of them even deliver on those promises.
While browsing our Instagram account one night, we discovered the K9Kelp Company. The Canadian founder, Patricia, founded K9 Kelp because of her Boxer, Jayda. Poor Jayda was suffering from a dry, cracked snout. Since most products on the market are petroleum based, Patricia stayed away from them. After developing Kelp Moisturizer and applying it to Jayda’s nose, it cleared up within a few days.
I did a little more reading and checked out the K9 Kelp Facebook page. I had heard of kelp for people but was unaware of its healing properties for canine issues.
